RECIPE: YAM AND SWEET POTATOES PORRIDGE

Yam lovers need to give this a trial! This recipe combines Yam and potatoes for porridge with fish and vegetables! Yam porridge or Yam pottage is a very delicious yam recipe. Yam porridge can be prepared with potatoes, plantain, or even beans. Yam porridge is quite popular, we have different ways of cooking yam porridge in Nigeria. This recipe post is another method to prepare Yam and sweet potatoes porridge.  Sweet potatoes have a mild, starchy, sweet flavor. Therefore, Yam and potatoes are a good combination for a tasty, yummy, and mouth-watering meal! 😉. To enrich your porridge, you can add fish, prawns, crayfish, and more.  What you need Yam Potatoes Red Bell Pepper, habanero & Tomatoes Onion  Fresh Palm oil Salt and seasonings Fish and crayfish Vegetable ( ugwu or spinach or scent leaves) NOTE: The quantity of the potatoes depends on how sweet you want your porridge to taste. All of these are important in giving you a tasty porridge. The pepper and tomatoes need to be blended

COLD WAR: CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF FAST FOODS


 "I am late, I just have to take something before going" This is one of the things we say that leads to the cold war; the war of fast food.

What are fast foods? Fast foods are featured in our quick, easily accessible and cheap to satisfy our immediate quest, alternatives to home-cooked meals. Fast food is food quickly prepared and served, often at restaurants or at home and typically associated with less expensive and less nutritious items.

Fast food is also a type of mass-produced food designed for commercial resale, with a strong priority placed on speed of service. It is a commercial term, limited to food sold in a restaurant or store with frozen, preheated or precooked ingredients and served in packaging for take-out or take-away. 


Examples of common fast foods:

Garri, Puff-puff, buns, Chin-chin, pizza, pastries, egg roll, pop corn, noddles, chocolates burger, fried chicken, french fries are the some example of fast foods. 

Also junks foods( not same as as fast foods);

Junk food is the food with empty calorie and poor nutritional content. It is also easily accessible e.g Soda, Egg and sausage sandwich, deep fried cheese sticks, Carbonated soft drinks, fruit Juices, Chips, Fried foods, Pastries and chips, Chocolate,Buns, carbonated drinks.


  CAUSES OF FAST FOODS

Some of the reasons that made fast foods so popular in our age are:

  • Change of lifestyle: Due to work, peer  pressure, environment and so one
  • They are Quick to get.
  • They are  easy to get.
  • They are too busy to cook.
  • They are inexpensive.
  • They taste better 

Fast foods re typically:-

  • high in calories
  • high in fat(especially the trans fat)
  • high in suga
  • rhigh in sodium (salt)

All these are detrimental to our a healthy lifestyle.


EFFECTS OF FAST FOODS

Many fast foods tend to be high in saturated fat, sugar, salt and calories.

The effects of fast food on human her society includes;

1. Fast food and obesity: Obesity is one of the consequences of fast food on the human body. Obesity comes because fast food is the factor that enriches the body with fats. So people will become less healthy, less effective, and less productive, and this is the conclusion of obesity.

Fast food  lead to obesity in children and youths than in adults because most of the fast foods are targeted towards children and there is a sustained pattern of eating fast foods and eating out. This comestic condition of obesity has lead to chronic medical disease that can lead to diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity-associated cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease, gallstones, and other chronic illnesses.

 Fast food has been linked to increased risk of cardiovascular disease, colorectal cancer, , high cholesterol, insulin resistance conditions and depression

Apart of this,

2. Fast foods have been described as a mouth-high pressured straw to squander family income because it has effect. They are more expensive than the food you cook for yourself.

3. It has been shown that, it leads to lost of traditions, reduce family bounding etc

The effect of fast food on we the people of twenty-first century is too enormous to turn a.  non-challant eye to.


Forever is too long, to live with these diseases that it opens us to despite our so called benefits.
