Is Breakfast The Most Important Meal of The Day?
This is a topic that can be provided with an answer by almost everyone, but the mist behind its clouds is not well understood.
The most speculated answer that can be provided by an average individual is 'Yes' but everything else goes into oblivion. Journey with me as we move into setting the answers free into our conscious minds.
Breakfast of course is the first meal of the day, usually eaten in the morning. It's the arousal to the stomach after a long night and sleep. Breakfast kick starts the metabolism, helping us burn calories throughout the day.
It also gives us the energy we need to get things done and helps us focus at work or at school. See what some famous personalities have to say about breakfast;
- "Breakfast is everything. The beginning, the first thing. It is the mouthful that is the commitment to a new day, a continuing life"... A. A Gill
- "It is more important to eat some carbohydrates at breakfast because the brain needs fuel right away, and carbohydrate is the best source of fuel to drive you for the day...Emmanuel P.A.
- “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.” ‒ Adelle Davis.
- "All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast"... John Gutter
Having a superb and healthy breakfast refills the body and restores the blood sugar (glucose), giving the energy and a clear head for the day ahead.
Research and Facts
Research has shown that breakfast is good for both physical and mental well-being; so your productivity during the day is a function, which is dependent on breakfast.
Many studies have shown that It improves your energy levels and ability to concentrate in the short term, can help with better weight management, and reduced the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease in the long term.
It has been linked to good health, including better memory and concentration, lower levels of “bad” LDL cholesterol, and lower chances of getting diabetes, heart disease, and being overweight.
It's important for all ages, most importantly children and adolescents. It has been proven that children who have their breakfast are more likely to have a higher concentration, problem-solving skills, and eye-hand coordination than those that play sheet music on the piano. They also tend to have alertness and creativity.
At all ages, it improves concentration and increases nutrition, keeps you focused on tasks, and can improve your performance in the workplace, and school,... Breakfast will put you in a better mood because your body is receiving nutrients.
People that do not eat breakfast usually feel very hungry, which causes them to binge eat later in the day which consequently leads to obesity, a risk factor for any kind of disease. This is not good for healthy living because the body needs to be taking in smaller amounts of food as the day goes on.
Those who think that lunch and dinner are the most important meals of the day are wrong. In fact, breakfast should be the largest meal of the day because it takes the entire day for the body to digest the food.
The best time to be digesting food is during the day when you are active. Evening meals of more than 500 calories can cause bloating and discomfort, which can interfere with sleep.
Reasons the breakfast is the most important meal of the day
E-for Energy
Eating breakfast boosts energy levels and restores glycogen levels ready to keep your metabolism up for the day. Waking up from an overnight long sleep, you may not have eaten for up to 10 hours. Breakfast replenishes the stores of energy and nutrients in the body.
Increases concentration, and hence productivity throughout the morning and day
This may be due to replenishing glucose, the brain's main energy source.
Lightens mood
A good and healthy breakfast lightens one's mood for the day and prevents mood swings is in line with the saying that "a hungry man Is an angry man" which definitely increases the overall day's efficiency.
Controls body weight
People who regularly eat breakfast are less likely to be overweight or obese. Eating breakfast may reduce hunger later in the day and it may help eaters to avoid junk foods at later meals.
Boosts brainpower
Not taking breakfast, you might find you feel a bit sluggish and struggle to focus on things because the brain has no energy (glucose) it needs to get going.
Studies suggest that not having breakfast affects your mental performance, including your attention, ability to concentrate, and memory. This can make some tasks feel harder than they normally would.
Children and adolescents who regularly eat breakfast also tend to perform better academically compared with those who skip breakfast.
Reduces the risk of illness
Compared with people who don’t have breakfast, those who regularly eat breakfast tend to have a lower risk of both obesity (a potential risk factor for many diseases) and type 2 diabetes. There is also some evidence that people who don’t have breakfast may be at a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, of course, a major cause of death.
Helps to make better food choices
During the day, people with better eating habits are less likely to be hungry for snacks during the day than people who skip breakfast. Children who eat an inadequate breakfast are more likely to make poor food choices not only for the rest of the day but also over the longer term.
Results of skipping breakfast
Ranging from being under or overweight, having a poor diet, lower physical activity levels, and not getting enough sleep is detrimental to health.
A good and healthy breakfast should contain fruits and vegetables, whole grains like cereals, dairy, proteins, and of course a balanced diet.
If there is anything you must sabotage, not your breakfast! getting your day right starts with getting your stomach right, and boom! a healthy life and day for the day's greater accomplishment.
